3 RANTS

OK, most of you know that I lean Libertarian-Republican. You also know that I disagree with Bush, Da Party, Rush and Sean from time-to-time. Well, it's time for a libertarian-sided rant that may just surprise my left-leaning friends.(I've included the applicable rights in parentheses because, unless you're in a high school ROTC program (like my son was) you aren't taught to memorize these anymore.)

Yesterday, the liberal-leaning Supreme Court just threw out the Fifth Amendment ("No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.").

Voting 5 to 4, the liberal-leaning Supreme Court voted like most Democrats accuse Republicans of voting... they have declared that your town or city council, town manager or mayor knows what is best and can impose "eminent domain" on your property, meaning that your municipality can legally STEAL it from you if a PRIVATE DEVELOPER shows them an idea that might bring in more tax dollars.

In other words, if you piss off city hall, they just might take your house from you. Granted, they can compensate you, but only in very few instances do they ever pay you what your property is worth. I'd really recommend bitching to your congressman and your senators to pass a law if they can (but knowing the commu... the social... the liberals on the bench, they will probably shoot down any law like that.)

My next rant has to do with the Flag Amendment. It is WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! You do NOT legislate morality and ethics; they are taught in the home. I taught my son respect for the flag, to stand at attention when it comes by in a parade.

No, I don't like it when I see a person burning the flag and/or desecrating it, but it IS a right that is protected under the second amendment. At best, what we should do is teach proper respect of flag and country to the children of the currrent generation; things that the parents of the present generation were too stoned (or just failed) to teach to this current batch of liberals out there. But pass a constitutional amendment? Come on, guys and gals... we have more important fish to fry. Next, you be trying to impose a marriage amendment... oh wait... that's in the offing as well... DAMN! I'll have to oppose that as well, I'm sorry. I can't think of any reason that gays shouldn't be able to have a civil union either...

Finally... To Rush and Sean when you blabber on about the Schaivo case. You know, I listened to you guys hammer home to me the TENTH AMENDMENT ("The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.") over and over again. You went on and on about States rights when it had to do with welfare programs, bombarding me with the fact that it should be left up to each individual State and municipality to handle welfare. It was a "State Right" according to you. Well, the Schaivo case was a "State right" thing too, damn it. You lost. Get over it.

Another thing, Sean Hannity... I've listened to you go on and on about that high school girl that's missing in Aruba. While I empathize with the family, I also realize several things. One: High School kids (OK, well, "graduates") went down there to drink, party and in general, act like the rich, spoiled assholes that they are. Kids like these go down to Aruba, Tijuana, Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas, generally unsupervised and unchapparoned. They think that the laws don't apply to them but that American "rights" do. They're wrong. Two: In Scouts, we teach something called "the buddy system" so that you don't get into trouble. This teen was too stupid to use that system, probably ditching her friends to be with "these cool guys." While I'm not saying she 'deserves' what she gets, she set herself up for it. I empathize with how the parents feel, but I do NOT agree with them nor with Hannity in their criticism of how Aruba is handling this case. Hey guys, it isn't the U.S.! Their laws, their system. ACCEPT IT!

Now, to those 7 pseudo-republicans that lost their nerve and are joining with the Democrats in various things, including "calling for a withdrawal timetable from Iraq." Hey guys, get some backbone! I'll tell you, just like I tell the whining Democrats I come across daily. the "W" in George W Bush stands for "WINNER." WE WON FOLKS... (directed especially to the NC 3rd District Representative, Walter "Whining and shaking in my boots" Jones) WE WON, DAMN IT!!! NOW START ACTING LIKE IT!
