pyroguysr's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Watery notes *sighs* I have an ear infection and spent way too much time at the doctors office today. Can't really hear much out of the left ear, which is ringing and popping and still sounds like I'm trying to hear conversations through an aquarium. I'm doubly saddened because I know at least four people in the New Orleans area that are being dramatically affected by the flooding. Two of them I know are safe in Atlanta, GA attending DragonCon... but Marrus may have lost everything she left at her house, which is only two blocks from the levee on the Mississippi River. She is my artist friend and just a totally loveable person. I'm hoping her marvelous artwork survived. Her husband, Jay, is going to head back after the con and see what he can do to help. He's a carpenter (even worked on the set of "Dukes Of Hazzard" when they were filming). They are really great people who moved to New Orleans to settle in someplace that was "inspiring." Marrus' friend, Vanessa, lives in Metarie and had just moved into her grandmothers house last fall. She's in Metarie, not far from the airport. Another really nice lady that let Kat and I crash at her place the night before I flew out to Lost Wages for my son's wedding. Lastly is Karen, aka binkyboo from the Louisiana Ren Fest. She just got a new apartment last month and was sending me pictures of her out on Lake Ponchartrain (SP?). I haven't been able to get through to her on her cellular to make sure she's OK. I'm sure she is. NOW... Lurking in the back of my mind was this thought. Just a few months ago, when the tsunami hit Indonesia, the U.S. was being harrassed by all you liberals out there AND the U.N. for "not donating enough," and being "stingy bastards"(even though we ended up supplying a majority of the aid in the end). TELL ME, WHERE IS THAT "GROUNDSWELL" OF COMPASSIONATE SUPPORT FROM THE WORLD COMMUNITY, EH? WHERE THE FUCK IS THE U.N. WHEN WE NEED THE ASSISTANCE? Oh, we're supposed to do it ourselves? WE, the people that feed half the Third World - and a good part of the "second" world as well (we call it "grain shipments to Russia" as a euphamism). Excuse me, but aren't WE members of the U.N. too? Haven't we saved the butts and propped up half the governments of Europe at one time or another over the past 60 years? Oh wait, you've all gone socialist and are laughing up your sleeve at the idea that this horrible natural disaster may cripple our economy for several years to come, aren't you? But you'll all be the first ones with your hand out when something happens in your neck of the woods, won't you?
