pyroguysr's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR MARRUS If you're looking at all the news and wondering what you can do to help someone, I can make it more personal for you rather than donating to those mega-charities where only $0.57 on the dollar (or less) actually makes it to those in need (you don't think that ALL those people working for the Red Cross were volunteers, did you?). I have a few dear friends that live in that area, but one of them is completely devastated from this storm. Thankfully, she's on the Convention and Renaissance Faire circuit and missed getting trapped by the storm. However, where she goes after the fairs have ended is unknown Jen Marrus is an extrodinary artist and an even more extrordinary person. She and her husband, Jay, are two people I treasure as friends. Whenever I've been down, they've been there to cheer me up. You'll not meet two more interesting people, I guarantee it. They have apparently lost just about everything they own and they will be essentially homeless for the next several months. Right now, Jay wants to go back and help, but it's too early for him to be there and avail everyone to his woodworking skills. I don't know how much artwork Marrus has brought along to sell, but I'd appreciate it if you'd either a.) buy some of her works or b.) go to her website for information on how to donate money so they can continue existing. Thankfully, her business allows us to send her money via PayPal. Just look for the link on the top right of her website. Check out her art as well! I normally wouldn't ask like this, but I'd really like you folks to help out some friends of mine that are in need. Also, if you'd like to see how much underwater her neighborhood is, go to LiveJournal and do a search on the name "Marrus". It will take awhile to load. I'm just about in tears looking at it, knowing I was walking and driving around that area just a few months ago. Please show your love for someone that is in need. 10:43 p.m. - 2005-09-01 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
