\"9\"

"9"

I miss the old Centre for the Easily Amused (aka, the beloved C*E*A to many people on my list). I miss the friendships that formed there. I miss the fact that people went beyond the "a/s/l" line and actually chatted with you for awhile before forming opinions and/or rejecting/accepting you as a chat partner.

Many of these people have not only become close online friends, but friends in real life... people I've met and become close to. Right now, I have 4 lovely cyber-daughters and four adopted grandchildren from that room!

In too many chatrooms now, it's become "instant gratification." They want instant rapport, instant friendship, instant loyalty, instant sex...

Quite a few chatrooms have even instituted "profiles" so that people can put things down and find others with like interests or give them a starting point for a chat. People rarely fill them out. And when they do, others rarely read them.

The C*E*A had it's faults. It was an HTML-based chatroom which made it easy for anyone with a modicum of programming intelligence to attack.

In that room, we relied on intelligence and the ability to string words together into proper sentences. Sometimes we got a little rough with folks that either couldn't or wouldn't do it. Since the chatroom was on the "OK" list for cyber filters and parental controls, we got a lot of young kids. Most of them were little shits, but a few here and there were bright and nice.

In many cases, we didn't know how old some of these chatters were. Most of us didn't know that DragonStar was 11 or 12 at the time she started chatting with us (and is now 19 and a freshman at Texas A&M). Several chatters thought she was "at least 22" when we were speculating. Same with Wenchy, *Kara* and "Abbi-Normal" just to mention a few (although Abbi cultivated a personality that "appeared" to be 25... when she was actually 15!)

What brings this on is the fact that I occasionally run into someone that was a thorn in the side of many females at CEA. He was always pestering them to "cyber" with him. I was amused, so when Gypsy told me she was getting tired of him pestering her, I PM'd him and mentioned a place called "Literotica" where he could chat about sex all he wanted(a place that I was turned on to by a young, female chatting friend that was then 17 years of age!). So he went there and found paradise for his cyber-sexual fantasies. Who was he? That chatter was someone we all knew as "9"
