pyroguysr's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REMEMBER YOUR VETERANS ON FRIDAY Friday, November 11th is Veterans Day in the United States. It's worse than Memorial Day in that most folks don't get the day off (they "use" it for getting the Friday after Thanksgiving off), there aren't any big sales, NFL games or NASCAR races to remind people as to the "why-for" they are home, getting drunk and watching the TV. It's a "forgotten" holiday remembered only by other veterans. I will be posting various patriotic quotes today and tomorrow as a reminder. If you know a veteran, go up to her/him and thank him for a job well done. Shake his/her hand. Give them a hug. They are the people responsible for your freedom to post on the internet, to drive across country, to watch television, read newspapers or listen to the radio. They are the ones that gave years from their lives, away from family, friends and loved ones so that you can get all giggly over the latest fashions or enter into a heated debate about politics. Some of them gave us their ultimate sacrifice - their lives - to ensure you have these freedoms. If your a sentimental old bastard like me, go out to your local Veterans Memorial and listen to the VFW and American Legion ranks remember their fallen comrades. If you're anything like me, your face will be streaming with tears as they play those long, simple, sad notes of "TAPS"... That's all.
