Spying Across America

SPYING ACROSS AMERICA

Again, on domestic issues, I'm finding myself in the peculiar position of agreeing with Democrats.

When the Justice Department and the Bush Administration said that they were "spying on Americans that might have ties to terrorists" I bit my lip. I didn't like it, no matter how noble the ends - it was a borderline violation of my Constitutional rights. Thomas Jefferson cringed when John Adams put the "Alien & Sedition" law into effect, stating that the freedom of the [media] was the most important right that citizens have to keep their government in check! Now, we seem to have Republicans acting like typical politicians... meaning that the law doesn't apply equally to everybody. The laws and the Constitution are put in place to protect and shelter the innocent. Unfortunately, it also protects and shelters the guilty so that law enforcement has to work harder to make their case. I understand the frustration there... but these laws are in place to prevent abuses of power (such as this is) that could lead to a totalitarian government!

But I bit my lip, grumbled to my self and let it slide. A huge mistake on my part!

As a U.S. Citizen, one must be ever-vigilant of any governmental intrusion into our lives, be they of the opposition or ones own "party." One must always question the motives for chipping away at general Constitutional rights. The Republicans have taken the war on terrorism to the home front and I'm torn, knowing that surveillance of sympathizers of extremist muslim causes, arab-born and/or naturalized arab-born peoples may be a good thing. However, the Bush Administration now takes it a step further.

They now want Google to turn over records of who and how searched for pornography. To that concept AND to John Ashcroft, I say again... FUCK YOU! This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the war on terrorism and you have once again vastly overstepped your bounds! I have freedoms guaranteed by the constitution and one of them is the freedom of the media. If I want to look up porn, goddamnit, I am entitled to do so! I don't give a flying fuck how much you think it's wrong or how much the N.O.W. femi-nazi's think it's "objectifying women" ...it's STILL my right to do so!

Want to catch those "child pornographers?" Do it the same way you've always done it. Run a fucking sting operation... but work within the law, don't make Google and other search engines do your work for you, you lazy-assed s.o.b.'s!!!!

You have NO right to demand that Google turn anything over to you! And I applaud Google for sticking to it's guns! The rest of you cross-toting, holier-than-thou right-wing hypocrites can go get a fucking life after kissing my rosey red ass!
